A little background information:
It began in Avebury, Wiltshire. 2013.
Amongst the largest Neolithic stone circle in the world.
Tykhe Dice began here in conception, influence and in the making.
(26miles north of Stonehenge, and infinitely more important.)
Tykhe Dice is a divination medium that I have been working with since 2013. It first began as a need to look at the more complex aspects of life in our time. I had questions in my life and like everyone else, issues and questions I wanted to find answers to.
Why Tykhe? Tykhe, the most revered of the Greek Goddesses once ruled the hand of fortune; daughter of Aphrodite and Zeus or Hermes. Don’t be surprised you have never heard of Tykhe, she has sadly become cloaked in time. The Romans had an equivalent of Tykhe…she was named Fortuna…aaah I hear you whisper, ‘fortune’ now there’s a word I know. From the dawn of time people have pondered over life, the universe and everything. But in particular, the trials and tribulations of their own lives, loves, dreams and fate. Dice were offered to the Goddess and the tradition was rediscovered, for not even the Greeks had invented something new. The tradition goes as far back as recorded time. We looked to these images and objects for both insight and inspiration…and we still do.
The undeniable fact was how often they have been right, for me that is beyond any doubt.
Well here it is, can you see a pattern, a portent in my methodology? How many casts, what’s the question, which parts are important…what do I really want to happen? I’m influencing and guiding my own future from the heart and from within my own mind and it’s infinite complexity. The ‘cast’ is only a point of decision, not the decision itself. So much is at work with divination, the hand of luck, timing…the right question even. The Greek Goddess, Tykhe embodied a hand beyond our mortal self an x-factor defined and checked by all the forces of our existence, the ether. An embodiment of virtues, the balance of spiritual and mortal. A portal through which we can see and measure our path.
Our current thinking
Then there are influences of the undiscovered self; the masculine and feminine aspects of our own personalities: anima and animus in Jung’s teachings.
Role out Tykhe Dice…all answers are there. And you can carry them around in your pocket.
Our futures are so varied and the possibilities infinite. Bring together tradition and more contemporary ideas into Tykhe Dice. With the support of others, both directly and indirectly Tykhe has risen from an idea to a fascinating Cleromancy divination medium that suggests it has a long future ahead of it.
Particular thanks are given to Arianllwynog who continues to work with Tykhe Dice and uncover more of its possibilities. His book on ‘Understanding Tykhe Dice’ is, and will remain, the reference for Tykhe Dice. However, having said that I quite expect that new users will open up new directions, techniques and casting methods. Tykhe Dice has only just emerged from its embryonic shell. How it grows in the years to come will be a constant source of enjoyment, surprise and enlightenment. I hope you decide to explore it too.
